Oval fragment of 16th century Swiss painted glass, a saint or other biblical character reading a book, was donated in 1955 to the medieval Parish Church of Saint Laurence at Hawkhurst, Kent, England, United Kingdom to help compensate for ancient glass blown from its windows when a German V1 flying bomb exploded in the churchyard in August 1944. Extensive damage caused by the blast was not fully repaired until 1957. A few pieces of retrieved ancient glass were made into a new roundel, and shrapnel from the V1 itself is now displayed in the church.

A few pieces of the shattered ancient glass were saved and painstakingly re-assembled into a new roundel, and twisted metal shrapnel from the flying bomb itself is now displayed on a windowsill within the church.
