Overlooking Portland Harbour in Dorset stands one of Henry VIII’s finest coastal fortifications, it was built in the early 1540s to protect the Isle of Portland and its strategically important harbour against French and Spanish invasion. This superbly preserved Tudor artillery fort is now in the care of English Heritage.
