Main facilities were semi-bomb proof with 3-floors above ground and 4-below. The school was in operation until the end of the Second World War in 1945. After the war, the former SS Junker School was the base of a battalion of the 3rd US Army until 1991. Flint Kaserne was home to the 10th Special Forces Group and the 7th Army NCO Academy. The SS spared no expense in the construction of the school: the facilities included a football stadium surrounded by an athletics track, a building for boxing training and fighting, gymnastics, ball games, a heated swimming pool and a sauna. Senior officer homes had an escape tunnel from the facility to the Bad Toelz train station. Warehousing was under the athletic field. 9-hole golf course came later. After the war, US General George S. Patton took over the office of military governor of Bavaria and ruled temporarily from Bad Tölz. Irwin Rommel’s desk served Patton at Flint Kaserne.
