Heavy bronze, retaining con-siderable vestiges of its ancient,original gliding, and heavily coatedwith malachite, mellow-brown andolive-gray patina and the shoulder a long incised in-scription which reveals that the vasewas made in the first year of Yung-shih of the Han dynasty, the year16 .\.D. of European reckoning. The surface is embellished with five decorative bands, lightly incised, iinolving cloud-scrolls, a meander and other designs, a ridge and furiows intervening. Brown and green patina, with rust ami brown earth incrustations. Ilciflht, liJ/i 152—Heavy Sonorous Bronze Beakek-shaped Vase {Han) With spreading foot and wide-flaring mouth, each formal sec-tion—base, midband and neck—divided into four parts by broadand deep vertical ridges which are adorned with short incisedscrolls. Decoration, the fao fieli ogre lineaments and archaicdragons in relief, and further embellished with cai-efully incisedscroll-fret which is continued throughout the interspaces. Onthe neck the decoration is comprised within slightly raised broadpalmations pointing upward. Height, llVi inches.
