We sometimes have had complaints that the castings broke in driving in; the reason has beenfound in all cases to be because the mortises are made too small; a close fit is entirely unnecessary;the casting ought to slip in neatly without driving, and no matter how dry the lumber seems, itwill shrink and hold it perfectly tight.
