(iibbs placed the corner-stone, using a solid siher trowel, which was presented to himby Messrs. Mahony Brothers, builders. The building as itwill appear when completed was engra\ed on the trowel, with. Siher Trowel Lsed al La\ ing of Coiner Stone. the cornerstone text. On the reverse side the followinginscription: Presented to George W. Gibbs, president ofthe San Francisco Young Mens Christian Association, on theoccasion of the laving the cornerstone of the building, August5, 1893. As soon as the box was sealed up Mr. Gibbs stepped tothe base of the stone. 1 wo boys from the Boys Brigadestood on either side of the stone as sentinels. The OaklandBrigade Band played a lively air, and Mr. Gibbs in placingthe stone said: 1 place this cornerstone in the name of theFather, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. the great cro\\tl spontaneouslv sang, Praise God FromWhom All Blessings Flow. Addresses were delivered by Hon. W. S. Barnes and theRight Reverend William Ford Nichols, D. D., EpiscopalBishop of California.
