Born in Salzburg, Austria. As a child he was a musical prodigy, later he came to be regarded as one of the greatest composers in the history of Western music, particularly Viennese classicism. His prolific output covered many musical genres with over 600 compositions, including orchestral symphonies, instrumental concertos, chamber music, operas etc., etc. In 1993 psychologist Frances H. Rauscher reported that listening to Mozart's music for 10 minutes improved spatial temporal reasoning skills, but that the effect was short-lived and not permanent. These findings were controversial at the time but the so-called “Mozart Effectâ€Â\x9D gave rise to popular claims that listening to Mozart raised the IQ of children several points. Recent research has concluded there is no evidence for cognitive enhancement from merely listening to Mozart's music.
