Tombstone of Japanese trader Yajirobei, Hoi An, Vietnam


The tombstone of Japanese merchant Yajiorobei who died in 1647 is inscribed with Japanese characters. The stele faces NE towards Japan. Yajiorobei may have been a Christian who came to Vietnam to escape persecution in feudal Japan.
