The Spokane & Inland division competes directly with theNorthern Pacific Railway and the Oregon Railroad & Naviga-tion, both in freight and passenger traffic for the Palousevalley towns. This rate has been in etfect since theelectric line opened and was. of course, met by the NorthernPacific Railway. On the Spokane & Inland division the rate isapproximately 2% cents a mile, as against 3 cents on the steamlines. Preparing in advance of the completion of the electricpower plant now under construction on the Wenatchee river,the Great Northern Railway has placed an order with theGeneral Electric Company for four 100-ton electric loco-motives, which will be used to pull trains through the Cascadetunnel.
