Sleeping Nymph 1550 - 1560 ( alabaster ) attributed to Willem van den Broecke Southern Netherlands Flemish Belgian Belgium

Sleeping Nymph, attributed to Willem van den Broecke, c. 1550 - c. 1560 alabaster Small, refined alabaster sculptures were a speciality of the Flemish sculptor Van den Broecke. This female figure, with her solid, muscular body, clearly recalls sculptures by Michelangelo. Van den Broecke must have thoroughly studied Michelangelo’s work during his sojourn in Italy.
