Foot muscles. Computer artwork of a view from below of some of the muscles and tendons (red and white) of the sole of the foot. On the four smaller toes are the lumbrical muscles (only shown at right) and tendons, which are attached to the flexor digitorum longus muscle of the calf. The tendon on the big toe (only shown at right) originates from the calf's flexor hallucis longus muscle. Both views show the quadratus plantae muscle joining the heel bone (calcaneus) and the flexor digitorum longus tendon. The view at right includes ligaments (white) joining the bones. These are most clearly seen in the knee.
