Cooper, a man of great perspicacity and withan indomitable will, was the first to see that the loca-tion of the city and the presence of the stockyardsafforded all the requirements necessary to establisha great horse market. He bought out Tom Evers, andvery shortly thereafter the shingle of J. S. Cooper is a rich man, prominent in bothsocial, business and political circles, and is doing asextensive a business as any man in the yards. He isably assisted by Andrew MacDonald, who is the equalof his chief in knowledge of the business and all-roundshrewdness. Cooper may justly be considered the father of thegreatest horse market in the world, and deserves thegratitude of the entire northwest for his activity in be-half of the horse industry.
