Another important feature of their business is hard-woodflooring of y% inch and yi inch thickness, from the plainest styles to the finestparquets. Orders for this work are increasing enormously every year. From12 to 30 skilled workmen are employed according to the season. Many ofthe splendid residences of the city have received their decorations at thehands of this firm, which is also favored with a large patronage from the in-terior. The proprietors of the business are natives of Saxony. Mr. LouisCooks came to America in 1866 and to California in 1884. He is much re-spected in business circles and has met with deserved Mr. H. M. Freck, stairbuilder, 211 Mission street, established business in1878, and to-day does a thriving trade in the city and adjoining country. Heoperates a large factory giving employment to a number of workmen. confines himself to his specialty of building stairs, which he constructsin every style. He makes many of his own designs, which are adopted ex-tensively by the architects of the city, and in this department and all branchesof his trade, he is an acknowledged authoritly. Mr. Freck is determined toplease all classes of customers. He constructs the most costly stairs of sur-passing elegance and bestows equal skill and workmanship upon stairwaysbuilt of less valuable material. The factory has exceptional facilities and em-ploys the best skilled labor. The reputation of Mr. Freck
