Fraternally, he isconnected with the M. W. and I. O. O. F. RUNKLE, Stephen A. (deceased), formerly awell-known farmer in Industry Township, Mc-Donough County, 111., whose widow, son and. (Walker) Runkle. the former, a native ofOhio, and the latter, of Pennsylvania. Hispaternal and maternal grandfathers were Wil-liam Runkle and Andrew Walker. DariusRunkle was one of the first settlers of Dodds-ville, and was a farmer by occupation. StephenA. Runkle received his early education in thepublic schools of McDonough County and after-ward purs\ied a course in the Gem City Busi-ness College. In early life, before his marriage,he was a bookkeeper in the Bank of remained on the homestead with his parentsuntil 1S85, when he moved to a farm one milenorth, which he cultivated for ten years.
