Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK - 28 March 2016. The 'Southend Shakedown' is the first mass meeting of motorcyclists along the promenade of the Essex seaside town on the Easter Monday bank holiday, traditionally the first outing of the year - hence 'Shakedown'. This, the eighteenth year of the event, almost didn't go ahead due to the organisers requesting £4k by the police for attending. Local traders came forward to pay the fee to secure the event. Despite the bad weather of Storm Katie many thousands of bikers still made the journey

This years event nearly didn't take place after Essex Police demanded £4000 to Police the event. In the end after the Event had been canceled many seafront traders in Southend got together to raise the money and the 2016 event went ahead as planned. Southend seafront traders generously supported the event financially in order to help it take place. With this income and the facilitation by Southend Borough Council we are pleased to announce that this year’s 18th annual Easter Bank Holiday Monday event is to go ahead!
