Another engineer informs me that in-stead of ten miles there would be nearerthirty miles where they would requirea pusher. Certainly a glance at this mapfrom Athol Station to Belmont showsthat the whole line must be reduced andpractically rebuilt to get any way nearthe grade required for the great Trans-continental roads. Another Route Necessary. From Dorchester to Sackville thepresent grade can be avoided by build-ing a loop which will make the road. T. So the fact still btares us in theface that we must needs have some wayof reaching the Atlantic Seaboard fromMoncton other than the present Inter-colonial Railway, and the Resolution sug-gests another route. If you will look at the map I willpoint out to you a survey that has al-ready been completed under the directionof Jas. Taylor and other engineers, andthis route will give a 4-10 grade goingeast to Truro and a 6-10 west, utilizingthe present Intercolonial Railway as faras Amherst or Athol Station, a portionof the Cumberland Coal & Railway Com-panys road from Newville near HalfwayRiver Lake, to a point a few miles out-side of Parrsboro, where the road strikeseast for Five Islands, and thence toTruro. The one fly in our ointment inregard to this route is the Garrish Moun-tain between Five Islands and LowerE
