Florists' Exchange was held at the market, November 30j with a large number in attendance. Thanks to the hard work of W. Kent, everything was ready on time and a picnic supper was enjoyed, after which a lively entertain- ment program was carried out. S. Pur- die was again the entertainment com- mittee and did well. John C. Bodger was referee at the boxing contest. Thomas Wright, H. E. Gage and other oflficers of the exchange also helped in various waj's to make the evening a success. H. R. R. OAKLAND, OAL. The Market. The Thanksgiving trade in Oakland and other east bay cities was above expectations at most of the establish- ments, its volume being sufficiently large to cause the florists to look for- ward to the greatest Christmas business they have ever had. Chrysanthemums showed the effects of the early frost and rain, especially the large blooms, but there was a fair supply of mums and an abundance of salable medium and small varieties to meet the demand. Other outdoor stock is holding its own with remarkable persistency in spite of the wintry weather. Indoor carnations show excellent quality and are in good demand. Shortening of the supply of outdoor roses has caused prices to ad- vance. Potted plants were a big item in the Thanksgiving trade, cyclamens being offered as well as azaleas and Bos- ton ferns. There was also a limited supply of poinsettias. The outlook is favorable for an ample supply of fine poinset
