Diamond Scale.—Diamond scale is so called from the elongated, dia- mond-shaped, black, shiny pustules, % to % inch long (fig. 18) that erupt through the epidermis of leaves and leafstalks. It is caused by the fungus Sphaerodothis neowashingtoniae.
