In 1891 Dr. Guillel-minetti, in the capacity of physician, accompanied theexpedition of the astronomer Janssen for the construc-tion of an observatory at the summit of Mont purposed to study the influence of atmosphericdepression upon himself and a score of guidesand carriers, during a stay of two weeks at analtitude of 14,430 feet. During . the first fewdays, all the members of the expedition wereseriously attacked with mountain sickness, and , of Chamounix, died in a hut among theglaciers, a victim of the altitude. Later on, Dr. Guil-lelminetti observed the same symptoms in a freeballoon on the occasion of half a score of physiologicalascensions made in November, 1901.
