Recruits from Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, hold up their war bags during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, May 8. The war bags are part of the recruits’ initial gear, and they will receive the rest of their gear at the end of the week. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 4.
