This lake is 22square miles area and fills from the river during high water, but has an outflow thatoperates a small mill during- low periods. There are a number of settlers around Sandand Whitefish lakes, who trade at N. D. du Laus, situated where the Riviere aux Oursempties from a mountainous district to the east. Ten miles below are the High falls of the Lievre, a very desirable water power, andto this point navigation is possible for 12 miles down to the lock at Poupore, and then20 miles further to Buckingham. Two serious land slides have taken place in thisvicinity at La Salette and at the lock, with several fatalities.
