The brackets of fruiting bodies of bracket-fungi are of different shapes and colours can be seen on alive and dead wood. Fungi invade trees as spores, develop filament-like hyphae within the trunks, and later the fruiting bodies appear. They feed on wood gradually destroying it. In Latvia, more than 130 species of bracket-fungi are recorded.
