The vagaries of the X-raytube may be safely trusted to prevent the radiographersuffering from ennui. It is advisable to have the following fitted on theswitch-board:—Double pole fuse and main switch;reversing switch and regulating resistance; and also anammeter. A voltmeter may be added, and if the interrupter is oneworked by a separate motor, it is convenient to have aswitch and resistance for its control on the board also. 88 TEXT-BOOK OF RADIOLOGY. The arrangement of the connections of a coil outfit areshown in the diagram (Fig. 36). Main Current. Fig. 36. Diagram of Induction Coil Circuits. It will be understood that the arrangement given abovecan be varied in any way that is convenient, so long asthe connections are the same. That given here will befound as handy as any, and every switch-board for aninduction coil outfit will be found to conform to it. Anyapparent variation will be of detail and not of principle. SWITCHBOARDS. 89 It can be made more simple without any sacriiice ofefficiency. For instance, a voltmeter is not necessary inmost cases, and the reversing switch can be made toanswer as a main switch as well. The only risk is thatof accidentally putting- the current on in the wrongdirection, and if this is done often the tube suffers. If an electrolytic break is used, no condenser isrequired, but, on the other hand, if a mercury break isinstalled which requires a separate electric motor to workit, then another switch and resistance for regulation ofspeed will need to be added.
