Berlin Mitte 2005. --- No releases available. --- Info: The Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin Mitte is one of the most beautiful squares in Berlin, surrounded by the Concert Hall (Konzerthaus, Schauspielhaus), the French (Franzoesischer Dom) and the German Cathedral (Deutscher Dom). The German Cathedral is situated in the south of the Gendarmenmarkt. It's pentagonal structure was designed by Martin Grünberg and built in 1708 by Giovanni Simonetti. In 1785 it was modified by Carl von Gontard, who build the domed tower. The German cathedral was destroyed 1945 during World War II by fire. After the German reunification the Dom was rebuilt and reopened in 1996 as a museum of German History.
