A large late Gothic letter box,Rhineland,circa 1500 Rectangular oak casket with remnants of old red coloured painting. Finely forged openwork strap fittings on each side. The lock on the front with a pierced cover plate and a V-shaped key guide. Original key. Moveable handle on the lid,presumably a replacement. Inner beech wood compartment with a hinged cover. The lid has a restored shrink crack.
