During hisstay in St. Louis he was political editor and jointproprietor of The Daily Times. In 1854 he re-moved to Vpsilanti, Michigan, and practised hisprofession there till the spring of 1S71. In thatyear he removed to Grand Rapids, Michigan, wherelie continued to reside. He was a member of theConstitutional Convention of 18C7, and from 1869. LYMAN DECATUR NORRIS was bornat Covington, New York, May 4, 1S23, son of Markand Roccena (Vail) Norris. He was lineally de-scended from Nicholas Norris who came from Eng-land to Hampton, New Hampshire, about great-grandfather David Norris was a Revolu-tionary soldier and fought at Trenton and Vails were of Welsh origin and settled on LongIsland in 1700. He entered the University of DECATUR NORRIS to 1871 he served as State Senator from WashtenawCounty. In 1869 the Regents of the Universityconferred upon him the honorary degree of }iLaster ofArts. On January 19, 1883, he was appointed Re-gent of the University in place of Byron M. Cut-cheon resigned, and served out the term, retiringat the close of that year. On November 22, 1854,he was married to Lucy A. Whittelsey, a lineal REGENTS BT ELECTION 20I descendant of the Reverend John Cotton. Theyhad three children : Maria VVhittelsey ; Mark (, 1882), now
