The Lamentation ca. 1514–16 Ludovico Mazzolino Italian Mazzolino’s quirky devotional panels and narratives were appreciated at the court of Ferrara by patrons such as Duchess Lucrezia Borgia. His figures and landscape are developed in a highly individual and expressive style derived from his study of German prints. This sort of eccentricity is characteristic of Ferrarese painting. This very fine work was once part of the grand collection of the Pio di Savoia family in The Lamentation 657683
