By means of an incision through the carti-lage parallel to the long axis of the foot, divide it intoanterior and posterior halves and extirpate the latter firstby dissecting it out on the inner side from the parachondrialtissue with the double-edged sage knife. The point of theknife must be constantly directed against the the inner surface of the anterior half of the cartilagelies immediately against the capsular ligament of the corono-pedal articulation the latter should be sharply extended bywhich means the capsular ligament is drawn away from thecartilage during its extirpation. The anterior half of thecartilage, k, is then removed in the same way, except withthe greatest possible care to avoid puncturing the corono-pedal articulation. Remnants of ca
