But Beloit had been selected forthe college; and from the Puritanical point of view of thosedays, Rockton was considered not a desirable distance for acollege for young ladies. Thus Rockford was given the prefer-ence. The Rockford Forum of October 29, 1845, published acall for a meeting at the Methodist church, on Monday evening,November 3d, to consider the location of the serainarv. Thiscall was signed by thirty-four citizens, led by T. D. OLD SEMINARY BUILDING fBegjan for the First Congregational church, subsequently owiieil by the covmtyas a court house.
