We believe that possibly theIndians were the first to make use ofgum in the way it is used to-day, and June 28, 1918. partly for that reason the Indian namewas selected. In making the selection ofa name as a trade mark, the custom is,we believe, to obtain a large number of. names and make a selection. This wasldone when the name O-Pee-Chee waslselected. At the time our trade marklwas selected the president of the O-Pee-Chee Gum Company, London, Ont., waslespecially interested in things pertainingfto Indian life, hence his interest in In-dian names. This had considerable in-lfiuence in favoring the adoption of this|name as a trade mark. * * * SAUCE sauce was originally manufacJtured by Garton & Co. before beinj,taken over by the Midland Vinegar Com-pany, Birmingham, England. When the idea of making a thicklsauce at a popular price was decidecupon, twenty different samples of blend^ of sauce were made, and were given t(Jeach of the salesmen, who submittedthese to their different customers tJtaste. These twenty blends of saucjwere reduced by public decision to thJfinal one, which is now made unde| Sauce.
