Although hostilities between the two nations had now ceased, a formalpeace was not established until 1763, when, on the loth of February,the treaty of Paris was signed, by which France ceded to Great Britainall her possessions in Canada. On the 30th, of July, 1760, GovernorDe Lancey, of New York, suddenly died, and the government passedinto the hands of Cadwallader Colden, who was commissioned lieuten-ant governor in August, 1761.
