This places him on a dead level with every mem- ber of the family, and his running will compare favorably with the common rabbit, except that all his play grounds, circles, wheels, etc., will be larger and repeated hour after hour, which will demand of the hound many different kinds of effort, indi- cated by the varying degrees of intensity of the scent, and the judge will see one of the most wonderful exhibitions of varia- tion in the history of animated nature. Hounds, when put to a gruelling task or asked to do that for which thev are entirely unfit from their performance, show their ability as hare dogs or their worthlessness as any kind of.
