Ozone and plant growth experiment. Staked plots in a meadow being used in an experiment on the effects of ozone on plant growth. In the lower atmosphere, ozone is a pollutant gas. The meadow is part of a diverse conservation area, in which the effects of ozone on a wide variety of plants and soil organisms are studied. The pipes in the background release ozone, which is carried across the meadow by prevailing winds. The meshed areas protect parts of the area being studied from grazing by sheep.
