There was a man of Is-ra-el who went up eachyear from the town ofRa-mah to a place calledShi-loh to pay his vowsto the Lord of his wife, whosename was Han-nah,went with him. Themans name was El-ka-nah. E-li was the high-priest at that time, andas he sat in the Lordshouse he saw Han-nahon her knees with hereyes full of tears. And he spoke to herin a kind voice, and said:May God grant theewhat thou dost ask ofhim. And Han-nah was glad at the high-priestswords, for she had asked God to give her a SAM-U-EL. Y. F. Sam-u-el was quite young when Han-nah tookhim up to the house of the Lord at Shi-loh. Now E-li had two sons, and they were priests inthe Lords house. But they were not fit for theplace, for they were bad men, and broke Gods by their sins they kept men from the house ofthe Lord.
