Locomotive appliances . troke of the engine willcommence and leave off in the same interval of cut represents a simple electrical attachment as itis applied to the Tabor indicator for this purpose toenable the operator to produce diagrams from one ormore indicators simultaneously during the samestroke of the engines, and from any number of cylin-ders by simply pressing a button arranged to closethe electrical circuit. The attachment consists of a magnet support S,which is clamped to the body of the indicator and heldin place by the set screw E. A magnet M is securedto the support, also binding screws C and spring I).An armature A is mounted on the rod B, and adjusted 26 402 LOCOMOTIVE APPLIANCES to coincide with the magnet M, and then secured to therod B by the small set-screw in the armature for thatpurpose. The rod B is screwed into the upright onthe swivel plate of the indicator, and any movement ofthe armature A produces a similar movement of thepencil toward or from the paper drum. The spring D. Fig. 3. Tabor Indicator Fitted with Houghtaling Reducing Motionand Electric Attachment. is for the purpose of holding the armature within thefield of the magnet before the current is established, and also to quickly release it when the current fromthe battery is broken. The improved device is easily attached to ordetached from the indicator in a few seconds. By LOCOMOTIVE APPLIANCES. 403 removing the cap that supports the pencil movementof the indicator and slackening the set-screw E of thesupport S, the attachment is readily removed. Itsconnection with the indicator does not in any wayinterfere with the usual speedy and convenient meansof adjusting the diagram paper to, or removing itfrom, the paper holding drum, or the changing of aspring in the instrument. It can be used on eitherright-hand or left-hand indicators with equal facilityby reversing the magnet support 5 and the magnet M,the latter being secured to its supporting shelf by twosmall screws.
