Varicose eczema. Darkened patches and dry skin on the lower leg of an 82-year-old woman due to varicose or gravitational eczema. Eczema is a type of skin inflammation (dermatitis) in which the skin becomes itchy, and may scale and blister. Varicose eczema is caused by poor circulation in the veins. Eczema is treated by the application of steroid and moisturising creams.
