The Crimson Beech, Cass House, Lighthouse Hill, Staten Island, New York

This house was built in the Lighthouse Hill section of Staten Island in 1958-59. It is one of two Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in New York City. It is an example of Prefab. No. 1, an attempt by Wright to design moderately priced housing for the middle-class. Construction was undertaken by Marshall Erdmann & Associates of Madison, Wisconsin. The name “Crimson Beech” was taken from an ancient copper beech tree growing on the property (since removed). The house is an official New York City landmark.
