Organized February 7, 1884. The first meeting held for the purpose of forming a Board of Trade inJacksonville met at the office of Col. John Q. Burbridge, January 31, Burbridge presided, and Henry S. Ely, Esq., acted as twenty business men attended; and, after a general discussionof the necessity of such an organization, a resolution was formallyadopted declaring that *^the interests of Jacksonville demand theorganization of a Board of Trade. Messrs. Jacob Huff, James R. Challen and J. E. Hart were thereuponappointed a committee to prepare an address to the citizens, askingtheir co-operation in organizing the proposed Board, and Dr. A. and Messrs. John Clark, James R. Challen, John P. Varnumand I^opold Furchgott were appointed a committee to draft and reporta constitution. At a meeting held February 1, 1884, a constitution was reportedand adopted.
