INTERNAL Internal injuries are not at all rare in the practice ofthe railway surgeon, inasmuch as the liability to blows,falls, and squeezes is so great in the discharge of theirduties by the yard or train workmen, and the forces caus-ing such are so powerful. The thoracic and abdominalorgans are not wholly protected by bone, and slight blowsare sometimes followed by an injury to one of their con-tained viscera. Such lesions are also very frequently metwith as complications of injuries to the extremities and tothe skull. Degree and Severity.
