The official Seal of HM Queen Elizabeth II, seen in the House of Lords on a charter giving Brighton city status in 2001.


Ian Denyer , the Clerk of the Chamber of the Crown Office in the House of Lords with the six and a quarter inch Seal of HM Queen Elizabeth 2 affixed to the document made of calf velum with calligraphy by Donald Jackson that confers City status on the former towns of Brighton and Hove in 2001. The seal was made from Dexel compressed at 7 tons using a Solid Silver Matrix (pictured) which has been used since 1953. The City status conferred on Brighton and Hove brought the total of Cities in the United Kingdom to 61.
