Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium This multipurpose sports areana is located in India’s capital city, New Delhi. The stadium is named after the first prime minister of India. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was opened in 1982. It was constructed by the Government of India to host the 9th Asian Games in 1982,with a seating capacity for 78,000 spectators or 130,000 for concerts. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has been renovated to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games. reducing the capacity to 60,000 spectators. Renovations took over two-and-a-half years to complete. The stadium will be the venue for athletics including nine synthetic training tracks, state of the art lightings, and will house the National Dope Test Laboratory. This earthquake resistant stadium will also host the opening and closing ceremonies.
