Prudence. Woodcut artwork of a woman looking into a hand-held mirror, holding a drawing compass. This depiction was accompanied in the original work by a poem (not shown) which explains that Prudence has three eyes: one in the back, watching the past in order to do better in the present; one in the front to watch the future; and an eye at the bottom to study the present. This artwork is from 'Le miroir politique' (1555) by the French author Guillaume de La Perriere ().
