Many of the readers of Forest Leaves, even those who come up tothis northern country during the summer, will be surprised to hear that. The Iroquois Girls there is an Indian settlement in Franklin County. About 1752 in theIroquois village of Caughnawaga there was considerable unrest. A num-ber of the young men who had seen something of the improvements goingon around them became dissatisfied. This led to petty quarrels, whichdisquieted the peace of the little hamlet. The sachems of the tribe advisedthese young men to remove with their families to a place by themselves.
