The Monument to Frederic Chopin in Lazienki Park in Warsaw

The monument to Frederic Chopin in the Lazienki Park is among the most distinguishable sights associated with Warsaw. Since 1959 the Chopin recitals by the most outstanding pianists playing at the foot of the monument have been held here during the summer. The recitals take place each Sunday from May to September, regardless of the weather (unless exceptionally bad). Each recital is attended by over 3,000 spectators which amounts to over 120,000 listeners per season. The monument, by Waclaw Szymanowski, has a stormy history. It was meant to be raised on the hundredth anniversary of the composer's birth in 1910. However the work was delayed due to the controversies around the monument and finally was interrupted by the outbreak of WWI. The monument was unveiled in 1926. Concerts under the willow - from mid-May to end-September: Sun noon and 4
