In weight ofgrain per measured bush., there were six varieties which gave upwards of forty pounds inthe crop of the past season. These varieties were Whiteside, Eirly Dawson, MortgageLifter, White Dutch, White Superior Scotch, and Washington. Wo find that the varietieswhich give a hfavy weight per measured bushel are usually only moderate yioJders, andproduce grain which is gfnerally thick in the huU. Within ihe last few years we havesecured some varieties of oats which are exceedingly early, and which ripen about thesame time as oar common six-rowed barley. The first varieties to ripen in 1900 werej. A Farmers Institute Excursion having lunch and listening to an address by President Mills beforevisiting the experimental grounds and the other departments of the College. Alaska, Daubeney, and Black Mesdag, all of which ripened between the 21th and 26th ofJuly. The Siberian and the American Banner each ripened on the 8th of August. Anyfarmers who wish to grow a mixture of oats and barley for the production of grain shouldselect a very early variety of oats to mix with the common barley, or else secure somelae variety of barley, such as one of the two-rowed kinds to sow with the standardvarieties of oats, such as the Siberian and th« Banner. The following nine varieties of oats were grown in the experimental plots in 1900 forthe first time, namely : Mennonite, Canadian Pride, Black Gotham, Irish Victor, NewSensation, Calgary Grf y, Ozar of Russia, Alaska, and the Princess, These yielded grainin the order in which the names are here given, th
