040916-N-0000X-002 Gulf of Mexico (Sept. 16, 2004) - Satellite image taken from the GOES-12 satellite of Hurricane Ivan at approximately 0645 EST. Ivan, a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane scale, has maximum sustained winds near 80 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 150 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 290 miles.
