These Phloxes nave been inspected here at FloralPark by people from nearly every state, and ail admit theirgreat superiority. Seed 6hould be sown in the open groundquite early. If started in pots in March or April, and culti-vated as pot plants, they will commence blooming in a fewweeks and make a most brilliant pot flower. A year or two ago we received from a lady customer, a let-ter in which was enclosed a few leaves and blossoms of someplant we did not know. These leaves and blossoms gave theletter such a charming fragrance that we wrote to ask whatthey were. The lady was unable to give us its name, butvery kindly sent some seed. It proved to be Cleome Pungens,an annual known to Botanists, but which seems to have neverbeen introduced, at which we greatly wonder. Seed sown inthe open ground in Mav commenced blooming July 1st, andcontinued in the greatest profusion until frost, attaining aheight of five or six feet, with great panicles of bloom aslarge as a Hydrangea. The flowers are a deep purplish pinkwhen they first open, but fade to light pink, so that the lowerpart of the panicle is a different color from the top part.
