By the Statutes then promulgated, the number of Knights,independent of the Sovereign, a Prince of the Blood Royal,and a Great Master, was restricted to thirty-five ; but even-tually, at the conclusion of the war in 1814, it was foundexpedient, for the purpose of rewarding the numerousdistinguished officers of both services, to extend considerablythe limits of the Order of the Bath.
