Medical instrument, Stethoscope, 1750-1850. The single-ear wooden stethoscope was developed from René Laënnec's paper roll of 1819. These were vase- or trumpet-shaped, turned in one piece from cedar, boxwood, ebony, or lignum vitae. They were superseded by two-ear stethoscopes from around Purchased from Edward H Pinto, .
