A mountain rescue technician is dangling below a helicopter during a rescue mission for an injured climber in the Swiss Alps. The famous Matterhorn mountain is in the background. This technique is called sling rescue, longline rescue or shorthaul. Air Zermatt in the Swiss Alps is one of the busiest and most professional helicopter mountain rescue services in the world. Yearly the brave men perform around 1600 rescue missions, most of them in high mountain terrain. In winter injured skiers are saved, in summer lost hikers are searched or stuck climbers evacuated.
